Summary | Candidatus Portiera aleyrodidarum BT-QVLC is a primary endosymbiont of Bemisia tabaci MED species (strain QHC-VLC). Bemisia tabaci feeds on plant sap that is very rich in sugars but poor in amino acids and cofactors. Candidatus Portiera aleyrodidarum BT-QVLC presents an extreme reduced genome with unusual large intergenic regions. It is able to produce several essential amino acids and carotenoids but the host needs a secondary endosymbiont to fulfill its unbalanced diet. The PGDB was created from the annotated genome [SantosGarcia12] by a team from the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology in Paterna, Spain, using the PathoLogic component of the Pathway Tools software [Karp11, Karp19] and the MetaCyc reference database [Caspi20]. The PGDB, which integrates the biochemical reaction network and metabolic pathways of the organism with its genome, was improved by limited manual curation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
